Assistant Secretary Toloui and Special Envoy Fowler Travel to Iowa

Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs Ramin Toloui and Special Envoy for Global Food Security Dr. Cary Fowler will travel October 24-26 to Des Moines, Iowa, and will participate in the 2023 Norman E. Borlaug International Dialogue hosted by the World Food Prize Foundation. The World Food Prize Foundation and the Department of State have a long history of collaboration and a shared goal of ensuring food security for all, dating back to 2004. The officials will discuss how the Department of State is working to strengthen global food security amid the challenges of rising conflict and climate change.

During their visit, Assistant Secretary Toloui and Special Envoy Fowler will meet with farmers, agricultural industry representatives, business leaders, students, and foreign counterparts.

Among other engagements, on October 25, Assistant Secretary Toloui will lead a roundtable discussion on building global resilience amid rising food security challenges. This panel will include high-level representatives from Bahrain, Norway, and the United Kingdom. He will then visit Iowa State University for a lecture on the Department of State’s diplomatic work on food security. Special Envoy Fowler will lead a panel discussion on the Vision for Adapted Crops and Soils (VACS) on October 25 that will highlight the recent multi-donor platform established by the International Fund for Agricultural Development to finance the initiative’s activities.

Assistant Secretary Toloui and Special Envoy Fowler will attend the World Food Prize Laureate Ceremony on October 26 featuring closing remarks from Assistant Secretary Toloui.
