During the meeting, Secretary Blinken and Chairperson Faki reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing peace, security, and prosperity throughout Africa.  They expressed their desire to work closely together on issues including trade and investment, food security, and democratic governance.

Secretary Blinken underscored the importance of strengthening the relationship between the United States and Africa.  He reaffirmed our support for the African Union joining the G20 as a permanent member and highlighted the U.S. government’s commitment to supporting the AU’s Agenda 2063, which aims to accelerate the socio-economic development of Africa over the next 40 years.

In closing, Secretary Blinken expressed his gratitude for Chairperson Faki’s leadership and the opportunity to engage in constructive dialogues – an important opportunity to follow up on commitments made as part of the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit held in Washington in December 2022.
