Secretary Blinken’s Meeting with Leaders of Atlanta’s Four Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)

Secretary Blinken met today with the leaders of Atlanta’s four historically black colleges and universities (HBCU)—Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Spelman College—which are part of the Atlanta University Center Consortium (AUCC). The Secretary conveyed his appreciation for the significant contributions these leaders, their faculty, and their students are making to the United States and our international engagement.

The Secretary stressed the importance of international education to our diplomacy and national security, our economic prosperity, and U.S. leadership in research and innovation.  He also highlighted the Department’s commitment to expanding opportunities for HBCU participation in educational exchanges as senders and hosts, and to actively recruiting from HBCUs to build a talented and diverse workforce.

Following this, the Department of State will work to organize, in cooperation with the AUCC, a regional Fulbright Program Adviser training in Atlanta for educational institutions in the southeastern United States. The training will engage up to 40 advisers from HBCUs and other institutions to strengthen their participation in the two-way Fulbright Program.
